Options: File

In the File tab of the Options dialog box, you can recover Cell connection or set Cell as the default program for excel files.

You can also specify whether to create a backup file (*.hcbk) and an automatically saved file (*.hca). These files are useful when a document fails to be saved due to a system error or the user's mistake.

Steps

To create a backup file (*.hcbk)

  1. Click File > Save in the new workbook.
  2. Enter data in Sheet1 and click File > Save to save the data.
  3. Click File > Options and, in the Options dialog box, select the File tab.
  4. In Create Backup File, select the Create Backup File check box and click Set.
  5. Enter data in Sheet2 and click File > Save.
The active file will be newly saved as a cell file in the current path and the extension of the previously saved cell file will change to hcbk.

To create an automatically saved file (*.hca)

  1. Click File > Options and, in the Options dialog box, select the File tab.
  2. In Auto Save, select the Always Save check box, type 10 min, and click Set.
  3. Entered data in a worksheet will be automatically saved every 10 minutes.

To set file association

  1. Click File > Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, select the File tab.
  3. In Link File, click Cell (*.cell) and click Set.
Cell will be set as the default program for excel files (.xls).

Note

Extension and Save Location of Automatically Saved File

Files saved by Auto Save have their current name but have the extension *.hca instead of *.cell. Automatically saved files are saved in the Windows temporary folder.

You can check the temporary folder from > About Cell > Folder Info.

Comparison of Backup File (*.hcbk) and Automatically Saved File (*.hca)

Auto Save is different from Create Backup File that specifies whether to create a *.hcbk file that gets created when you click File > Save in Cell.

If you use Create Backup File, a *.hcbk file as well as a *.cell file will be created when you click Save. The *.hcbk file will remain until the next time you click Save. On the contrary, the *.hca files created by Auto Save get deleted from the disk when you exit Cell normally.

Restoring Backup File and Automatically Saved File

If you save backup files (*.hcbk) created by the backup function and automatically saved files (*.hca) created by the auto save function, as Cell files (*.cell), you can restore them.
