Open Different File Types

Word allows you to read and edit Word documents (*.docx), Hwp documents (*.hwp) as well as other file formats directly.

Steps

Click File > Open.
In the Open dialog box, click the File Type list button and select Word Documents (97~ 2003)(*.doc).
In Find in, select a folder that has the document file of choice. Only the word documents (*.doc) in that folder will be displayed in the file list box.
Select a file of choice from the list box and click Open.
The selected file opens in the document window.

Supported File Types

If you want to open a different file type by clicking Open, select a file type you want in File Type. You can also type a file type in File Name, like *.txt. If you type *.txt, a list of files with the extension .txt will be displayed.

Read documents from the Thinkfree Office program with the selected extension.

Word Document(97-2003) (*.doc)
Read previous version of Microsoft Word documents (*.doc).

Word Document (*.docx)
Read *.docx file format including Word documents.

Text Documents (*.txt)
Read a text document. Text file type is a document file type that contains the most basic information made up only of regular texts, numbers, and various symbols, but not special control characters or graphic characters.

Rich Text Documents (*.rtf)
RTF (Rich Text Format) is a file type that maximizes the compatibility of document information created in various applications.

Read previous version of Microsoft Word templates (*.dot).

Word Teamplates (*.dotx)
Read latest version of Microsoft Word templates (*.dotx).

Word Teamplates (*.hwdt)
Read Word templates dedicated for Word (*.hwdt).

ODF Text Documents (*.odt)
Read documents in the ODF (Open Document Format) format which is ISO standard.

PDF, PDF/A Documents (*.pdf)
Read document in the PDF, PDF/A format which is a standard of electronic documents.
